narcism can be seen throughout the book Anne of unripened Gables. amour propre has been defined by the Oxford Paperback Dictionary as deviate self- overtake laid or self admiration. Narcissism is as well as synonymous with vanity, conceit, vanity, self-importance and arrogance. The narcissistic tendencies in Anne search to modify throughout the book and be often displayed through her imagination.               When Anne arrives at Green Gables she is an orphan and has never learned to love anyone hardly herself, this changes primarily through her relationships with Matthew, Marilla and Diana. Annes egotism can be illustrated in the initial chapters when Anne is meeting Matthew and Marilla she asks them if they entrust call her Cordelia because Its such a perfectly elegant name. (Montgomery p24) Anne cant seem to find any beg in her name and comminute is very important to her. She settles on Anne, but it must be Anne spelled with an e because It looks so often nicer. (p25) The Cordelia reference also illustrates vanity through the reference to Cordelia, in Shakespeares office Lear. In King Lear, Cordelia will not intrust in to her fathers (King Lear) narcissistic demands for love and Anne identifies very closely with this heroine. Anne substitutes her victimizing orphan situation for her imagination and naming with heroines such as Cordelia.               Annes set-back meeting with Mrs. Rachel Lynde lays the foundation for a proper demonstration of vanity. Anne is anger by Mrs. Lyndes comments about her sort and this causes her to have a skanky outburst of anger. Anne must by and by apologize to Mrs. Lynde. She puts forth a tremendous display of humility and is very pleased everywhere the thoroughness of her own apology. Marilla sees Anne ... reveling in the thoroughness of her abasement. (p74) Anne comments to Marilla I apologized pretty well, didnt I? (p75) Anne continues... ! You managed to persuade me, but Ive always prefered comparision papers, and I think comparing annes adolescence to rillas would stumble an interesting paper.
